Fond farwells with some of our besties (and beasties)

  1. Oh, it's all a bit sad....for those left at home that is, not you lot!

    So...places to go in tassie:
Mount Field - lake Dobson is very beautiful, make sure you walk right around the lake. And there's more adventurous walks further up. Also a nice waterfall somewhere.
Sticks valley - used to be huge trees. Not sure what's left now but there might be the odd one here and there. I remember a hollow one that fitted something like 11 people and 2 dogs (the cathedral?).
There used to be a good op shop in New Norfolk on the way to mt field....prob too trendy now.
If you go west then you could do the devil feeding near Marrawah. The guy was Joe or Geoff King (he used both names) and does feeding from a little shack by the sea. Worth doing if you can find him.
If you're far west coast stop in at Arthur River and walk on the beach - there used to be massive driftwood, as in huge tree trunk driftwood. And the sea is so turbulent and there are so much tannins in the water that you get a foot of foam on the water, enough to lose a dog in...
Go on a hike to wineglass bay - so beautiful and not a hard walk (I don't think), overnight hike is better I reckon. The hazards walk at freycinet is good too, very much like wilsons prom.
There are some great walks on the Tasman peninsular as well (port arthur way). The tasman arch and blowhole are good but a bit tourist accessible boring. Longer walks but better is to go to Shipstern bluff or the Pinnacle/Cape Pillar? Not sure what that second ones called. They are longish walks though....depends if those munchkins are tough enough...not to mention the adults....
Most other things I've done is fieldwork and long hikes....and there's heaps I know nothing about.

There's also the treetop walk down south which you'll probably want to do and probably enjoy. I didn't cause it's basically just a propaganda campaign by forestry tasmania - don't be fooled by the strip of trees along all the tourist roads...just beyond is devastation of pretty much all of the big forests across tassie....just to end on a cheerful note. Have fun!!!
